Is it me? Or has the tenor of religion and temperature of religious intolerance been intensifying? I am speaking of the intolerance of people who say they are Christian for those who choose to either keep their religion as a private matter or profess no religion; or those who have come to the view that religion serves no purpose in their life.
The most visible example of this intolerance is the outrage at the current President of the United States. First, he was criticized for attending a church where the pastor allegedly had some questionable views with regard to white people. Then, when he takes office, and does not go to church, he is criticized for not being christian! It appears to me that he is following the example of the founding fathers by keeping Church and State separate in performing the duties of his office.
If we do not watch out, the loud voices we hear yelling about christian values will become the only voices allowed and this nation will no longer be a free country for any or no religion, just the christians. Then I wonder...which christians will we be listening to? Catholic? Lutheran? Methodist? Baptist? Mormon? ...and what becomes of those who do not believe in the fairy tale?
